He has steadily expanded his musical world by reinterpreting traditional jazz elements with a modern sensibility. Having established a unique sound while performing on various stages both domestically and internationally, he is evaluated as a musician with deep emotions and meticulous musical composition.
〔When You Study Upon a Star〕 is Kwak YoonChan’s 11th full-length album, and provides a special musical experience for moments when concentration is needed. This album contains an innovative attempt that combines music and mathematical concepts, and consists of 17 tracks. It implements a unique, calm metasound by utilizing the mathematical order of note values, which helps improve concentration and creative thinking.

The 17th track, “Fly Fly Fly,” is a song that makes you feel as if you have finished an endless journey and are flying into the sky. This song is composed to give a sense of freedom and liberation, and stands out with its emotional performance and sophisticated harmonic progression. Kwak YoonChan utilized numerological music techniques to balance numbers and music, and created a perfect sense of balance through Opposite Resolution and numerical crossover. Through this composition, you can feel a natural sense of rising throughout the song.
In addition, the functional crossover of the Triad (3rd chord) and the 7th Chord was utilized to express the energy that seems to gradually rise throughout the song, which is an element that perfectly matches the title of the song, “Fly Fly Fly.” This harmonic combination makes the listener feel a sense of escalating emotion, and at the end of the song, it gives a sense of liberation as if flying freely in the vast sky. In addition, the harmonious chord progression with the piano melody induces a deep sense of immersion and leaves a strong impression on the listener.
At the end of the concentration and immersion that music gives us, we can experience the moment of freedom. Listen to “Fly Fly Fly” right now on “JIGPU”!
